What every code on this platform means

Almost every identifier here is somebody else's: 8542, USA, NY.GDP.MKTP.CD, M. Each is precise, each is opaque, and a reader who does not already know the nomenclature is asked to either look it up or skip the column. A code without its issuing authority is worse than no code — it looks authoritative while being uncheckable. Everything below names the body that maintains it and links to the definitive list, so a figure you doubt can be checked at its source rather than taken on trust.

HS headings in use — World Customs Organization

Short labels marked ours are plain-language names this platform attaches for readability. The legal definition of each code is the WCO's heading text, which is longer, more precise, and occasionally surprising about what it includes.

Nations

ISO 3166-1 alpha-3, with the UN M49 code each maps to

The interface uses ISO3 because USA reads instantly where 842 does not. Comtrade queries need M49 and the World Bank needs ISO3, so the platform holds both. Entry fields accept either.
